The three primary pyramids on the Giza plateau were built over the course of three generations by three Egyptian pharaohs: Khufu, Khafre, and Menkaure.
The northernmost structure, for King Khufu, is the oldest and largest. Erected almost 4,600 years ago, it stood about 480 feet until erosion and removal of its casing stones brought it down roughly 25 feet. The second pyramid is smaller, and the third is smaller still, but there are other differences as well.
