There is no denying that in today's threat-heavy world, the cloud is a crucial element of security.
As office spaces become more technologically dependent, as well as increasingly spread out, cloud security is vital in keeping data safe and networks secure. The channel is, of course, in the privileged, yet daunting, position of being at the vanguard of cloud security, which means that solution providers need to lead their clients through this often terra incognita with authority and absolute assuredness. This is only possible if they have a cloud solution and service that they know will provide customers with absolute security, whether on or off premises, as well as a cost-effective outcome that can scale according to a client's size and needs.
It is for this reason that Cisco's Cisco Umbrella for MSSPs triumphed at this year's Channelnomics Security Awards. In its award-winning entry, Cisco described how the service is designed to help MSSPs grow their business by providing end users with an on-network and off-network solution that blocks malware, phishing and command and control callbacks.
"Umbrella is unique because it protects at the DNS-layer, stopping threats before they ever reach a client's network or endpoints," Cisco wrote in its entry. "Cisco Umbrella can help differentiate an MSSP because it provides the best protection and coverage for end users," the vendor added.
This was a key point in the judges' decision to bestow the Cloud Security Award on Cisco. One of the judging panel described Cisco Umbrella as "exactly the tool MSSPs need to help their clients understand that cloud security can and will protect their data effectively and with consistency".
We also heard from Warren, NJ-based MSSP Your Tech Team on the need for a cloud security solution that is quick to implement and, put simply, effective in combating customers' cloud security needs. Your Tech Team founder Richard O'Keefe told us in Cisco's entry for the Cloud Security Award that Cisco Umbrella helped the solution provider reduce malware infections by 75 percent, as well as extend new protections to remote users and increase client and internal productivity.
"Clients are constantly…under attack these days, with end users bearing the brunt of attacks through web browsing, email and especially the minefield of social media platforms and their potentially hazardous embedded content," O'Keefe wrote. "In order to deliver the most effective protection to our clients, we needed the best possible security solution," he said.
One of the key criterion for the winner of the Cloud Security Award was the benefits of the solution for partners. O'Keefe was keen to point out that Your Tech Team found Umbrella easy to implement and maintain, leaving the partner with time to focus on other areas.
"Before Umbrella, it seemed like we spent most of our time fighting these battles, and then suddenly following deployment, we found ourselves with time for other priorities," he said. "We saw a 75 percent reduction in serious breaches in the year following the Umbrella implementation, [which] translates to about 90 hours saved for our clients."
This was another key factor for awarding the Cloud Security Award to Cisco. As an organization that is focused on helping solution providers to always find ways to improve their bottom line, it was vital for Channelnomics and the judging panel to recognize the solution that it genuinely believed can improve partners' business and revenues, while enabling them to demonstrate the benefits of a cloud security solution to their customer and build upon the trusted advisor status every service provider needs to offer its customers today.
"An easy-to-implement solution that offers genuine opportunity to increase bottom lines is always going to be a boon for the channel," one judge wrote. "Cisco Umbrella offers that, as well as a solution that enables partners to protect their customers via the cloud with a stress-free process, that is so valuable in today's always-on world."
