Hello and welcome to this week's edition of Editor's Voice.
Well, cometh November, cometh the snow over here on the East Coast. It was a cold one yesterday, swiftly followed by some very hot news in the channel today as BlackBerry announced its intended acquisition of security vendor Cylance.
The CEOs of the two companies hopped on a conference call this morning to discuss what the news means for them both and, of course, the channel. It seems BlackBerry is very keen to leverage Cylance's 100 percent channel model in order to broaden its reach. Partners of both firms should stay tuned to watch how this unfolds for them, both in terms of product and partner program.
Earlier in the week, things were more cloudy than cold on Channelnomics as we spoke with F5 Networks' VP of North American channels, Lisa Citron for our Vendor Q&A. The channel chief told us that cloud remains the most challenging trend in the channel today, with partners still unsure as to whether the cloud is a 'fad' or here to stay.
Well, if you ask RingCentral CEO Vlad Shmunis, you'll get a very clear answer: "Legacy is dead, long live the cloud". That's what the CEO told RingCentral's ConnectCentral event in San Francisco, CA this week.
And cloud wasn't the only technology on everybody's lips this week. Robotic Process Automation (RPA) also hit the headlines as Gartner proclaimed that 85 percent of large companies will be employing RPA by 2022. Meanwhile, RPA vendors UiPath and Automation Anywhere raised a tidy $565 million in funding this week to further their RPA efforts.
Elsewhere (Las Vegas to be precise), Cisco's newly appointed channel chief told partners at the networking vendor's 2018 partner Summit that big change is ahead for Cisco's partner program.
And if you feel like heading back to Orlando, FL to hear from last week's ConnectWise IT Nation, be sure to check out our conversation with ConnectWise Peer Groups' VP Arlin Sorenson on the struggles VARs are facing and our chat with StorageCraft president Douglas Brockett about the vendor's plans for product and channel over the coming months.
I think that's plenty to be getting on with; be sure to check out the rest of the site for the latest channel news and views.
We welcome you to join the debate by getting in touch or letting us know what you think on Twitter: @Channelnomics. We're always keen to hear what you have to say!
