AHEAD, Blue Data, and Sovereign Systems bring complementary expertise, regional presence
The planned combination of three IT solution providers – AHEAD, Data Blue, and Sovereign Systems – will create a single $1.3 billion company with a much broader portfolio and regional reach.
The Lowdown: AHEAD and Data Blue, both owned by equity firm Court Square Capital Partners, are merging and will acquire Sovereign in a pair of deals that were announced this month and will close within 60 days.
The Details: Daniel Adamany, founder and CEO of AHEAD, will become the CEO of the new company, while Data Blue founder and CEO Stephen Ayoub will become president and Chief Revenue Officer. For the time being, the brand names of all three companies will stay in place throughout the course of the integration. A new brand identity will be announced after that.
While all three companies are involved in helping organizations modernize their operations and transition to the cloud, and so essentially compete against each other, each has strengths that complement the others. AHEAD has expertise in consulting and implementation in such areas as enterprise service management, DevOps, analytics, and security. For its part, Data Blue has strengths in managed services and networking, while Sovereign’s expertise is in cloud, VMware, and ServiceNow.
The combined company will have strengths in integrating on-premises and cloud infrastructure, leveraging cloud businesses that are based on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure platforms. It will be among the larger channel partners for both Dell Technologies and Cisco and will count Fortune 1000 clients among its customers.
The new company, which will be particularly deep in health care, insurance, and financial services, also will have broader geographic reach. The headquarters for the merged company will be in Chicago, where AHEAD is based. AHEAD covers the Midwest and Mid-Atlantic area, while Data Blue has customers in the Northeast and Southeast. Sovereign is based in Norcross, Georgia.
The Buzz: “We’re thrilled to join forces with Data Blue and Sovereign Systems,” Adamany said. “Together we’ll harness tremendous synergies between our offerings, our partners, and the markets we serve – all to the enormous benefit of clients.”
“This merger creates enormous value for our customers and partners, and makes sense on multiple levels,” Ayoub said. “Our firms share similar roots, are committed to client success, and know what it takes to grow profitably in a very competitive industry.”
“With this combination, our ability to scale expands substantially,” said Matt Cadogan, managing partner of Sovereign. “Our larger, combined brand will help us serve clients more effectively, but the minimal regional overlap will allow us to maintain the close-knit relationships that our clients have come to expect.”
