Vendor demos ALP Pro in the ‘City of Lights’
At the Digital Signage Expo in Las Vegas this week, NEC Display Solutions of America is debuting the Analytics Learning Platform (ALP) Pro, a solution for retailers that brings together signage, analytics, and cloud computing.
The Lowdown: NEC’s ALP uses AI-based analytics to optimize message delivery and automate content creation. With the new offering, retailers can customize content on their digital displays based on weather, local events, and demographic info about customers such as age and gender.
The Details: The ALP Pro, which will become available in July, is an end-to-end solution consisting of hardware; software; Big Data analytics; cloud, managed, and consulting services; content creation; installation; and around-the-clock support. The in-store solution includes an edge computing appliance, cameras, and sensors. Full API integration with key digital signage content management systems and media players, including BrightSign, Navori, StratosMedia, and Signagelive, allows the system to deliver and trigger content on an array of platforms.
NEC’s ALP Pro ties together technology from several companies:
>Data Call – for weather and location-based data
>Intel, Microsoft (Azure) – for infrastructure
>Oculus360 – for AI-powered insights
>Sophatar – for point-of-sale integration
Background: NEC Display Solutions, a wholly owned subsidiary of NEC Corp., debuted its ALP, the underlying technology of its latest digital signage offering, last October. Using facial recognition, the system provides non-identifying information, such as age and gender, which is fed to an edge device and triggers appropriate content for digital displays. Afterward, data is delivered to the cloud, providing retailers with useful insights, including demographic info about customers, audience traffic, customer engagement, and sales impact of content.
“With NEC ALP, we’re helping retailers deliver the right message at the right time to the right audience,” said Richard Ventura, vice president of strategy at NEC Display Solutions, in a press release issued at the time of ALP’s rollout.
The Buzz: “With NEC ALP Pro, we’ve focused on building a forward-thinking, future-ready analytics platform for our customers that enables them to make informed decisions to improve store performance and meet their goals,” said Ventura in today’s release. “ALP Pro is a completely unique platform that leverages the power of AI to automatically deliver optimized messaging, including being able to measure customer wait times and trigger content, as well as provide a deeper level of analytics to evaluate message performance.
“With NEC ALP Pro, we’re using AI combined with analytics to change how digital signage is used in retail,” Ventura added. “That’s why we’ve integrated several partners to deliver a comprehensive business intelligence platform.”
